DAY 2 - Udawalawa National Park / Yala

The Udawalawe National Park situated 230km south east of Colombo was established in 1972 as the fifth national park in the country. If you desire to see the best of Elephants, then Udawalawe is where you should be heading for. It is considered as one of the best destinations to see herds of Asian Elephants, both adults and young, The Udawalawe National Park has recorded 94 plant species, 21 fish, 12 amphibians, 33 reptiles, 184 birds (33 migratory), and 43 mammals in addition to 135 species of butterflies. A must visit destination before the actual park excursion is the Udawalawe Elephant transit home which is situated close to the Udawalawe Reservoir.

Day 3 - Yala National Park / Yala

Visit Yala National Park

Yala National Park is the most visited and the second largest National Park in the country. Situated 260km South East of Colombo, the park covers an area of 378 sq miles, in a climate that is dry most year round. Yala national Park can be reached from several destinations. The park is mainly made up of dense jungle in addition to unspoiled beaches, freshwater lakes and rivers, scrubland, and rocky outcrops, all of which makes the location a comprehensive habitat for the many species of wildlife who call it home. Nevertheless Yala National park is best known for its leopard population, which is believed to be one of the highest leopard densities in the world and is the key attraction among the thousands who visit the park.

Day 4 - Bundala National Park / Relax in Beach Resort Mirissa

Visit Bundala National Park

Situated in the Southern Province, close to Hambantota, The Bundala National Park considered the most important birding destination in Sri Lanka was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1969 and thereafter advanced to a National Park in 1993. It is located 251 km southeast of the capital city of Colombo, and can be reached from various tourist destinations around the country. The park isspread out on 6,218 hectares consists of a striking landscape made up of a mix of thorny scrublands, marshes, lagoons, waterways and dunes making it an inviting destination for thousands of migratory birds, some long distant migrants flying all the way from Euro Asian destinations to winter in the park. It has been observes by bird lovers and nature enthusiasts that these migratory birds stop over at the same site every year as birds are believed to follow established migratory routes which are well defined over long distances.
